Dwight, Harrison Gray Otis, D.D.

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

a missionary of the American Board of Commissioners of Foreign Missions, was born at Conway, Massachusetts, November 22, 1803. He graduated from Hamilton College in 1825 and from Andover Theological Seminary in 1828, and in 1830 sailed for the East. After spending two years exploring the field, he settled as missionary at Constantinople in 1832, and there remained nearly thirty years, preaching, superintending schools, and editing a religious paper. He also published a very popular book entitled Christianity 'Brought' Home from the East. He was killed by a railroad accident in Vermont, January 25, 1862.
