Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

(στάδιος or στάδιον , a stadiun), a Greek measure of distance, equal to 606 feet 9 inches (Luke 24:13; John 6:19; John 11:18; [1 Corinthians 9:24, "race," i.e., a course or lists for running]; Revelation 14:20; 20:16). See Smith's Dict. of Class. Antiq. s.v. Stadium. (See MEASURE); (See STADE).
