Garsis

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

a town mentioned in the Talmud (גִּרְסִיס, Erubim, fol. 21, b) as the residence of one Rabbi Joshua; also by Josephus (Γαρσίς , War, 5:11, 5) as the native city (πὀλις ) of one Tephthmeus, and situated in Galilee - Schwarz adds (Palest. page 178) 20 stadia from Sepphoris (evidently confounding it with the Garisimi, Γαρεισίμη v.r. Γαρίς κώμη, of Josepheus, Life, § 71), but that the site is now unknown.
