Hildulf, Also Hidulf, of St. Idon

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

flourished in the second half of the 7th century, and is said to have been bishop of Trier under king Pepin. This position he resigned, and founded a monastery in the Vogese mountains. Rettberg (Kirchken-Gesch. Deutschl. 1, 467 sq.; 522 sq.) is inclined to think that Hildulf never held a bishopric. Many biographies have been published of him. Herzog, Real-Encyklop. 6, 96. (J.
