Holiness, Beauty of

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

is a phrase occurring several times in the English Bible (always as a translation of the Heb. hadrath' ko'desh, הִדְרִת קֹדְַשׁ , ornament of sanctity, 1 Chronicles 15:29; 2 Chronicles 20:21; Psalms 29:2; Psalms 116:9; in the plur. of the cognate term הָדָר, hadda, Psalms 110:3), which simply denotes splendid garments, such as are worn on festive occasions, i.q. "holiday suit," not necessarily the sacred priestly vestments, since it is usually, if not exclusively, applied to nonsacerdotal persons.
