According to a tradition recorded by Nicephorus Callistus (H.E. 8, 6), he was appointed bishop of Byzantium by St. Andrew, held the office for sixteen years, and was succeeded by Onesimus. He is also said by Hippolytus and Dorotheus to have been one of the seventy disciples.
