Water-Spout

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

is the rendering, in the A.V. at Psalms 42:7, of צַנּוֹר, tsinnor (from צנר, a root of doubtful import), which Gesenius thinks a cataract or watercourse ("gutter," 2 Samuel 5:8), and First a pipe or conduit. Water-spouts, it seems, are actually seen on the Mediterranean (see Thomson, Land and Book, 2:256). (See GUTTER).
