A river in W. Africa, falling by a wide estuary into the Bight of Biafra, known as the oil river, from the quantities of palm-oil exported; a mountain range, a volcanic group, the highest peak nearly 14,000 ft., NW. of the estuary; also a German colony, extending 199 m. along the coast.
