Haphraim

The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

City of Issachar, between Shunem and Shihon (Joshua 19:18,19). In the "Onomastica Sacra," s. "Aphraim," it is spoken of as still known under the name of "Affarea," six miles from Legio (Lajjun), to the north. About that distance from Lajjun and two miles west of Sulam (the ancient Shunem) stands the village of Al-'Afulah, which may be the representative of Haphraim (Baedeker-Socin, "Palestine," 2d ed., p. 238). Haphraim is possibly identical with Aphærema mentioned in I Macc. 11:34.
