(behr ee chi' ah) Personal name meaning, “Yahweh blessed.” 1. A descendant of David in period after Jews returned from Exile in Babylon (1 Chronicles 3:20 ). 2 . Father of Asaph (1 Chronicles 6:39 ). See 1 Chronicles 9:16 ). 4 . A Levite in charge of the ark when David moved it to Jerusalem (1 Chronicles 15:23 ). He could be identical with 2. above. 5. A leader of the tribe of Ephraim who rescued prisoners of war Pekah, king of Israel (752-732), had taken from Ahaz, king of Judah (735-715) (2 Chronicles 28:12 ). 6 . Father of Meshullam, who repaired the wall with Nehemiah (Nehemiah 3:4 ). His family was tied in marriage to Tobiah, Nehemiah's enemy (Nehemiah 6:17-19 ). 7 . Father of the prophet Zechariah (Zechariah 1:1; Matthew 23:35 ).
