English translation used for different Hebrew terms by different translations. KJV used for lilith ( Isaiah 34:14 ). See Isaiah 34:11; Zephaniah 2:14 ) but simply “owls” at Isaiah 14:23 . NRSV used “screech owl” at Zephaniah 2:14 . NIV also used “screech owl” for Hebrew tachmas ( Leviticus 11:16; Deuteronomy 14:15 ). REB used “screech owl” for Hebrew yanshuph ( Leviticus 11:17; Deuteronomy 14:16; Isaiah 34:11 ). Qippod may be Syrnium aluco or Scops giu . Others suggest the Arabian desert fowl (Ammoperdrix heyi ). Tachmas cannot be identified with any certainty. Yanshoph may be the eared owl ( Asiootus ) or the Merops apiaster . See Owl .
