Archbishop of Armagh, born Ballykilbeg, Ireland, 1780; died Drogheda, Ireland, 1849. Ordained in 1806, he was made Bishop of Down and Connor in 1825, and had the episcopal parish changed from Downpatrick to Belfast, where he founded Saint Malachy's College. In 1835 he was transferred to the See of Armagh, where he established Saint Patrick's Seminary and in 1841 laid the foundation stone of the cathedral.
