Smith, George (1),
a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, was born in Litchfield, Conn., in 1801. Of Presbyterian parentage, he, nevertheless, joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in Chenango County, N.Y., in November, 1817. He joined the Pittsburgh Conference in 1832, and was ordained deacon in 1834 and elder in 1836. He afterwards went West and joined the Missouri Conference. He died Sept. 1, 1872.
