a Congregational minister, was born at Manchester, Mass., in 1753, graduated at Harvard College in 1771, and was ordained in April, 1774, pastor at Newbury, Mass., where he remained until inaugurated professor of divinity at Harvard College, Dec. 26,1792, which position he retained until his death, Aug. 27,1803. He published, Two Friendly Letters to Philalethes (1785): An Address to the Students of Andover Academy (1791): An Address to Andover Students (1794): and a large number of occasional Sermons; After his death were published Lectures on Jewish Antiquities (1807): Sermons on Important Subjects (1807).
