a Protestant Episcopal clergyman, was born in Roxbury, Mass., Oct. 7, 1737. He graduate at Harvard College in 1756; went to England for holy orders in 1764; and July 22 of the same year was installed rector of Trinity Church, Boston, third Episcopal Church of that city. He resigned this charge March 17, 1776, and went to Nova Scotia, where he remained several years, and preached during a considerable portion of the time at Shelburne. In 1791 he returned to Boston, and purchased an old mansion in Charter Street, which formed his home during the remainder of his life. In 1792 he was installed rector of Christ Church, Boston.
