So Shechem said to Hamor his father, saying, "Get this girl for me as a wife."

And Hamor spoke with them saying, "Shechem my son is in love with your daughter. Please give her to him for a wife.

Make marriages with us. Give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.

And they said to them, "We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to a man who is uncircumcised, for that is a disgrace for us.

Then we will give our daughters to you, and we will take for ourselves your daughters, and we will live with you and become one family.

Then Midianite traders passed by. And they drew Joseph up and brought him up from the pit, and they sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph to Egypt.

And Jacob tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his loins and mourned for his son many days.

And all his sons and daughters tried to console him, but he refused to be consoled. And he said, "No, I shall go down to my son, to Sheol, mourning." And his father wept for him.

And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, and her name was Tamar.
