These written by name came in the days of Hizkiyahu king of Yehudah, and struck their tents, and the Me`unim who were found there, and destroyed them utterly to this day, and lived in their place; because there was pasture there for their flocks.

Some of them, even of the sons of Shim`on, five hundred men, went to Mount Se`ir, having for their captains Pelatyah, and Ne`aryah, and Refayah, and `Uzzi'el, the sons of Yish`i.

The sons of Re'uven the firstborn of Yisra'el (for he was the firstborn; but, because he defiled his father's couch, his birthright was given to the sons of Yosef the son of Yisra'el; and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.

For Yehudah prevailed above his brothers, and of him came the prince; but the birthright was Yosef's:)

They were helped against them, and the Hagrim were delivered into their hand, and all who were with them; for they cried to God in the battle, and he was entreated of them, because they put their trust in him.

All these were sons of Yedi`a'el, according to the heads of their fathers' [houses], mighty men of valor, seventeen thousand and two hundred, who were able to go forth in the host for war.

All these were the children of Asher, heads of the fathers' houses, choice and mighty men of valor, chief of the princes. The number of them reckoned by genealogy for service in war was twenty-six thousand men.

So all Yisra'el were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Yisra'el: and Yehudah was carried away captive to Bavel for their disobedience.

These are the singers, heads of fathers' [houses] of the Levites, [who lived] in the chambers [and were] free [from other service]; for they were employed in their work day and night.
