For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me and the gospel will save it.

For what does it benefit a man to gain the whole world yet lose his life?

What can a man give in exchange for his life?

For whoever is ashamed of Me and of My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels."

Then Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it's good for us to be here! Let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah"—

For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, "The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill Him, and after He is killed, He will rise three days later."

For whoever is not against us is for us.

"But whoever causes the downfall of one of these little ones who believe in Me—it would be better for him if a heavy millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.

And if your hand causes your downfall, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and go to hell—the unquenchable fire,

And if your foot causes your downfall, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than to have two feet and be thrown into hell— [the unquenchable fire,

And if your eye causes your downfall, gouge it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,

For everyone will be salted with fire.

Some Pharisees approached Him to test Him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"

But Jesus told them, "He wrote this command for you because of the hardness of your hearts.

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother [ and be joined to his wife ] ,

When Jesus saw it, He was indignant and said to them, "Let the little children come to Me. Don't stop them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, "How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!"

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God."

Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, approached Him and said, "Teacher, we want You to do something for us if we ask You."

"What do you want Me to do for you?" He asked them.
