Then David said to God, "I have sinned greatly because I have done this thing. Now I beg You to take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have acted very foolishly."

but David could not go before it to inquire of God, because he was afraid of the sword of the angel of the LORD.

but this word of the LORD came to me: 'You have shed much blood and waged great wars. You are not to build a house for My Name because you have shed so much blood on the ground before Me.

Also to his son Shemaiah were born sons who ruled over their families because they were strong, capable men.

David did not count the men aged twenty or under, because the LORD had said that He would make Israel as numerous as the stars of the sky.

Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. For because of this census wrath came upon Israel, and the number was not entered in the Book of the Chronicles of King David.

but God said to me, 'You are not to build a house for My Name, because you are a man of war who has spilled blood.'

Then King David said to the whole assembly, "My son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, is young and inexperienced. The task is great because this palace will not be for man, but for the LORD God.

Moreover, because of my delight in the house of my God, I now give for it my personal treasures of gold and silver, over and above all that I have provided for this holy temple:

And Solomon and the whole assembly went to the high place at Gibeon because it was the location of God's Tent of Meeting, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.

Now David had brought the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim to the place he had prepared for it, because he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem.

to prepare for me timber in abundance, because the temple I am building will be great and wonderful.

Then King Hiram of Tyre wrote a letter in reply to Solomon: "Because the LORD loves His people, He has set you over them as king."

so that the priests could not stand there to minister because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.

When Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have sinned against You, and they return to You and confess Your name, praying and pleading before You in this house,

When the skies are shut and there is no rain because Your people have sinned against You, and they pray toward this place and confess Your name, and they turn from their sins because You have afflicted them,

And as for the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of Your great name and Your mighty hand and outstretched arm-when he comes and prays toward this house,

The priests were unable to enter the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled it.

And others will answer, 'Because they have forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them. Because of this, He has brought all this disaster upon them.'"

But Solomon did not consign any of the Israelites to slave labor, because they were his men of war, his officers and captains, and the commanders of his chariots and cavalry.
