אֱלוּל

Those who sow in tears will reap with cries of joy (Psalms 126:5).

Each of the High Holy Days contains a prophetic mystery. The first is Yom Teru'ah (the Day of Blowing Trumpets), when the shofar (ram's horn) is blasted, calling God's people to stop what they're doing and get ready to meet the Lord. Next is Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement), which calls God's people to repent and come into his presence to be washed and forgiven. The last is Sukkot (the Feast of Tabernacles), the great day of celebration, which calls God's people to be thankful and rejoice in his blessings.

Each feast can be described in one word: Yom Teru'ah: Stop! Yom Kippur: Repent! Sukkot: Rejoice! Now put them all together and you have a powerful message straight from God: Stop! Repent! Rejoice!

God wants us to rejoice, but we can only really rejoice inasmuch as we repent. We can only really repent inasmuch as we really stop. Do you want real joy? You need to really repent. Do you want to really repent? Then you need to really stop.

You can't change if you don't stop. God wants you to have real joy, but it all starts by stopping.

...stop watching TV or reading, and invest one hour in being close with the Lord.
