Voice of the Lord
Get yourself out of your country, away from your kinsmen and away from your father's house, and go to the land that I will show you (Genesis 12:1).
Did you ever notice that when the Lord spoke to Abram and promised him the Land, he did not tell him where to go? Imagine the Lord telling you something like that: "Just pack and I will show you." So, you hire a moving van, they load up your belongings and the driver asks, "Where to, buddy?"
"I'm not sure yet," you say. "Just start driving and the Lord will tell us." They will probably think you're crazy, and, if they agree not to dump your stuff out of the van, they will probably require you to pay a hefty sum in advance!
Abram obeyed God in that kind of situation! I think God did it that way so Abram would have to depend on God completely, every single day. That's what faith is all aboututter and complete dependence on God. When we read that "God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble," it means that God resists those who rely solely on their own abilities and he gives grace to those who are dependent on him. Abram had such a dependence and it was "credited to his account as righteousness" (Romans 4:3).
Are we dependent on the Lord today for direction, or are we independent, trying to do it our own way? Go God's way today!
...repent of all independence in my life and, like father Abram, trust in God to lead me into his promised land for my life.
