(ay' pihss) Sacred bull worshiped in Memphis, Egypt. RSV and TEV divide the words in Jeremiah 46:15 differently than does printed Hebrew text. They thus translate, “Why has Apis fled?” (RSV) or “Why has your mighty God Apis fallen?” (TEV). Other translations retain the present Hebrew text and read, “Why are thy valiant men swept away?” (KJV)
