That which must necessarily happen. The Old Testament speaks of death as the common fate of humankind (Psalm 49:12 ; Psalm 81:15 ; Ecclesiastes 2:14 ; Ecclesiastes 3:19 ; Ecclesiastes 9:2-3 ). The Old Testament similarly speaks of violent death as the destiny of the wicked (Job 15:22 ; Isaiah 65:12 ; Hosea 9:13 ). See Election and Predestination.
