signifies (a) "a necessity," what must needs be (see NEEDS), translated "necessity" (in some mss. in Luke 23:17 ) in 1 Corinthians 7:37; 9:16; 2 Corinthians 9:7 (with ek "out of"); Philemon 1:14 (with kata, "according to"); Hebrews 7:12; 9:16; (b) "distress, pain," translated "necessities" in 2 Corinthians 6:4; 12:10 .
