1In the ninth year of Zedekiah(a) king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar(b) king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his whole army and laid siege(c) to it.

When Zedekiah king of Judah and all the soldiers saw them, they fled; they left the city at night by way of the king's garden, through the gate between the two walls,(h) and headed toward the Arabah.[a](i)

Zedekiah(d) was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. His mother's name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah; she was from Libnah.(e)

Jeremiah Freed

The word came to Jeremiah from the Lord after Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard had released him at Ramah.(a) He had found Jeremiah bound in chains among all the captives(b) from Jerusalem and Judah who were being carried into exile to Babylon.
