Now before the Feast of ^(C1)the Passover, Jesus, knowing that ^(C2)His hour had come that He would depart from this world ^(C3)to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them ^(F1)to the end.

And during supper, ^(C1)the devil having already put into the heart of ^(C2)Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him,

Jesus, ^(C1)knowing that the Father had handed all things over to Him, and that ^(C2)He had come forth from God and was going back to God,

^(*)got up from supper and ^(*)laid His outer garments aside; and He took a towel and ^(C1)tied it around Himself.

Then He ^(*)poured water into the basin, and began ^(C1)washing the disciples' feet and wiping them with the towel which He had tied around Himself.

So He ^(*)came to Simon Peter. He ^(*)said to Him, "Lord, You are washing my feet?"

Jesus answered and said to him, "What I am doing, you do not realize right now, but you will understand ^(C1)later."

Peter ^(*)said to Him, "Never shall You wash my feet!" Jesus answered him, "^(C1)If I do not wash you, ^(C2)you have no ^(F1)place with Me."

Simon Peter ^(*)said to Him, "Lord, then wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head!"

Jesus ^(*)said to him, "He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet; otherwise he is completely clean. And ^(C1)you are clean—but ^(F1)not all of you."

For ^(C1)He knew the one who was betraying Him; it was for this reason that He said, "Not all of you are clean."

Then, when He had washed their feet, and ^(C1)taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, "Do you know what I have done for you?

"You call Me ^(C1)'Teacher' and ^(C2)'Lord'; and ^(F1)you are correct, for so I am.

"So if I, ^(C1)the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.

"For I gave you ^(C1)an example, so that you also would do just as I did for you.

"Truly, truly I say to you, ^(C1)a slave is not greater than his master, nor is ^(F1)(C2)one who is sent greater than the one who sent him.

"If you know these things, you are ^(C1)blessed if you do them.

"^(C1)I am not speaking about all of you. I know the ones whom I have ^(C2)chosen; but this is happening ^(C3)so that the Scripture may be fulfilled, '^(C4)HE WHO EATS MY BREAD HAS LIFTED UP HIS HEEL AGAINST ME.'

"From now on ^(C1)I am telling you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you may believe that ^(C2)I am He.

"Truly, truly I say to you, ^(C1)the one who ^(F1)receives anyone I send, ^(F1)receives Me; and the one who ^(F1)receives Me ^(F1)receives Him who sent Me."

When Jesus had said these things, He ^(C1)became troubled in spirit, and ^(F1)testified and said, "Truly, truly I say to you that ^(C2)one of you will ^(F2)betray Me."

The disciples began looking at one another, ^(C1)at a loss to know of which one He was speaking.

Lying back on ^(C1)Jesus' chest was one of His disciples, ^(C2)whom Jesus loved.

So Simon Peter ^(*)nodded to this disciple and ^(*)said to him, "Tell us who it is of whom He is speaking."

He then simply ^(C1)leaned back on Jesus' chest and ^(*)said to Him, "Lord, who is it?"

Jesus then ^(*)answered, "That man is the one for whom I shall dip the piece of bread and give it to him." So when He had dipped the piece of bread, He ^(*)took and ^(*)gave it to Judas, ^(C1)the son of Simon Iscariot.

After ^(F1)this, ^(C1)Satan then ^(C2)entered him. Therefore Jesus ^(*)said to him, "What you are doing, do it quickly."

Now none of those reclining at the table knew for what purpose He had said this to him.

For some were assuming, since Judas ^(C1)kept the money box, that Jesus was saying to him, "Buy the things we need ^(C2)for the feast"; or else, that he was to ^(F1)(C3)give something to the poor.

So after receiving the piece of bread, he left immediately; and ^(C1)it was night.

Therefore when he had left, Jesus ^(*)said, "Now ^(F1)is ^(C1)the Son of Man ^(C2)glorified, and ^(C3)God ^(F1)is glorified in Him;

^(F1)if God is glorified in Him, ^(C1)God will also glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him immediately.

"^(C1)Little children, I am still with you ^(C2)a little longer. ^(C3)You will look for Me; and just as I said to the ^(F1)Jews, now I also say to you: 'Where I am going, you cannot come.'

"I am giving you a ^(C1)new commandment, ^(C2)that you love one another; ^(C3)just as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

"^(C1)By this all people will know that you are My disciples: if you have love for one another."

Simon Peter ^(*)said to Him, "Lord, where are You going?" Jesus answered, "^(C1)Where I am going, you cannot follow Me now; but ^(C2)you will follow later."

Peter ^(*)said to Him, "Lord, why can I not follow You right now? ^(C1)I will lay down my life for You."

Jesus ^(*)replied, "Will you lay down your life for Me? Truly, truly I say to you, ^(C1)a rooster will not crow until you deny Me three times.

"^(C1)Do not let your heart be troubled; ^(F1)believe in God, believe also in Me.

"In My Father's house are many ^(F1)rooms; if that were not so, ^(F2)I would have told you, because ^(C1)I am going there to prepare a place for you.

"And if I go and prepare a place for you, ^(C1)I am coming again and will take you to Myself, so that ^(C2)where I am, there you also will be.

"And you know the way where I am going."

^(C1)Thomas ^(*)said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going; how do we know the way?"

Jesus ^(*)said to him, "I am ^(C1)the way, and ^(C2)the truth, and ^(C3)the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.

"^(C1)If you ^(F1)had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you ^(C2)know Him, and have ^(C3)seen Him."

^(C1)Philip ^(*)said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us."

Jesus ^(*)said to him, "Have I been with ^(F1)you for so long a time, and yet ^(F2)you have not come to know Me, Philip? ^(C1)The one who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

"Do you not believe that ^(C1)I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? ^(C2)The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own, but the Father, as He remains in Me, does His works.

"Believe Me that ^(C1)I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise ^(C2)believe because of the works themselves.

"Truly, truly I say to you, the one who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and ^(C1)greater works than these he will do; because ^(C2)I am going to the Father.

"And ^(C1)whatever you ask in My name, this I will do, so that ^(C2)the Father may be glorified in the Son.

"If you ask Me anything ^(C1)in My name, I will do it.

"^(C1)If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

"I will ask the Father, and He will give you another ^(F1)(C1)Helper, so that He may be with you forever;

the Helper is ^(C1)the Spirit of truth, ^(C2)whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him; but you know Him because He remains with you and will be in you.

"I will not leave you as orphans; ^(C1)I am coming to you.

"^(F1)(C1)After a little while, ^(C2)the world no longer is going to see Me, but you are going to see Me; ^(C3)because I live, you also will live.

"^(C1)On that day you will know that ^(C2)I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I in you.

"^(C1)The one who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and ^(C2)the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will ^(C3)reveal Myself to him."

^(C1)Judas (not Iscariot) ^(*)said to Him, "Lord, what has happened ^(C2)that You are going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?"

Jesus answered and said to him, "^(C1)If anyone loves Me, he will ^(C2)follow My word; and ^(C3)My Father will love him, and We ^(C4)will come to him and make Our dwelling with him.

"The one who does not love Me ^(C1)does not follow My words; and ^(C2)the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father's who sent Me.

"These things I have spoken to you while remaining with you.

"But the ^(C1)Helper, the Holy Spirit ^(C2)whom the Father will send in My name, ^(C3)He will teach you all things, and ^(C4)remind you of all that I said to you.

"^(C1)Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. ^(F1)(C2)Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor ^(F2)fearful.

"^(C1)You heard that I said to you, 'I am going away, and ^(C2)I am coming to you.' If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced ^(F1)because ^(C3)I am going to the Father, for ^(C4)the Father is greater than I.

"And now ^(C1)I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe.

"I will not speak much more with you, for ^(C1)the ruler of the world is coming, and he has ^(F1)nothing in regard to Me,

but so that the world may know that I love the Father, ^(F1)I do exactly as ^(C1)the Father commanded Me. Get up, ^(C2)let's go from here.

"^(C1)I am the true vine, and My Father is the ^(C2)vinedresser.

"Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He ^(F1)prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.

"^(C1)You are already ^(F1)clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.

"^(C1)Remain in Me, ^(F1)and I in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit ^(F2)of itself ^(F3)but must remain in the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in Me.

"I am the vine, you are the branches; the one who remains in Me, and I in him ^(F1)(C1)bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

"If anyone does not remain in Me, he is ^(C1)thrown away like a branch and dries up; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.

"If you remain in Me, and My words remain in you, ^(C1)ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

"My ^(C1)Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so ^(F1)(C2)prove to be My disciples.

"Just as ^(C1)the Father has loved Me, I also have loved you; remain in My love.

"^(C1)If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love; just as ^(C2)I have kept My Father's commandments and remain in His love.

"^(C1)These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your ^(C2)joy may be made full.

"This is ^(C1)My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.

"^(C1)Greater love has no one than this, that a person will ^(C2)lay down his life for his friends.

"You are My ^(C1)friends if ^(C2)you do what I command you.

"No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, because ^(C1)all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.

"^(C1)You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and ^(C2)bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that ^(C3)whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.

"This ^(C1)I command you, that you love one another.

"^(C1)If the world hates you, ^(F1)you know that it has hated Me before it hated you.

"If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but ^(C1)I chose you out of the world, ^(C2)because of this the world hates you.

"Remember the word that I said to you, '^(C1)A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, ^(C2)they will persecute you as well; if they ^(C3)followed My word, they will follow yours also.

"But all these things they will do to you ^(C1)on account of My name, ^(C2)because they do not know the One who sent Me.

"^(C1)If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have ^(F1)sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.

"The one who hates Me hates My Father also.

"^(C1)If I had not done among them ^(C2)the works which no one else did, they would not have ^(F1)sin; but now they have both seen and hated Me and My Father as well.

"But this has happened so that the word that is written in their ^(C1)Law will be fulfilled: '^(C2)THEY HATED ME FOR NO REASON.'

"When the ^(F1)(C1)Helper comes, ^(C2)whom I will send to you from the Father, namely, ^(C3)the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, ^(C4)He will testify about Me,

and ^(F1)(C1)you are testifying as well, because you have been with Me ^(C2)from the beginning.
