Jesus spoke these things; and ^(C1)raising His eyes to heaven, He said, "Father, the hour has come; ^(C2)glorify Your Son, so that the Son may glorify You,

just as ^(C1)You gave Him authority over all ^(F1)mankind, so that ^(F2)(C2)to all whom You have given Him, ^(C3)He may give eternal life.

"And this is eternal life, that they may know You, ^(C1)the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom ^(C2)You have sent.

"^(C1)I glorified You on the earth ^(F1)(C2)by accomplishing the work which You have given Me to do.

"And now You, Father, ^(C1)glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had ^(C2)with You before the world existed.

"^(C1)I have revealed Your name to the men whom ^(C2)You gave Me out of the world; they were ^(C3)Yours and You gave them to Me, and they have ^(C4)followed Your word.

"Now they have come to know that everything which You have given Me is from You;

for ^(C1)the words which You gave Me ^(C2)I have given to them; and they received them and truly understood that ^(C3)I came forth from You, and they believed that ^(C4)You sent Me.

"^(C1)I ask on their behalf; ^(C2)I do not ask on behalf of the world, but on the behalf of those whom ^(C3)You have given Me, because ^(C4)they are Yours;

and ^(C1)all things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I have been glorified in them.

"I am no longer going to be in the world; and yet ^(C1)they themselves are in the world, and ^(C2)I am coming to You. ^(C3)Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name ^(C4)which You have given Me, so that ^(C5)they may be one just as We are.

"While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name, ^(C1)which You have given Me; and I guarded them, and ^(C2)not one of them perished except ^(C3)the ^(F1)son of destruction, so that the ^(C4)Scripture would be fulfilled.

"But now ^(C1)I am coming to You; and ^(C2)these things I speak in the world so that they may have My ^(C3)joy made full in themselves.

"I have given them Your word; and ^(C1)the world has hated them because ^(C2)they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

"I am not asking You to take them out of the world, but to keep them away from ^(F1)(C1)the evil one.

"^(C1)They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

"^(C1)Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.

"Just as ^(C1)You sent Me into the world, ^(C2)I also sent them into the world.

"And for their sakes I ^(C1)sanctify Myself, so that they themselves also may be ^(C2)sanctified ^(C3)in truth.

"I am not asking on behalf of these alone, but also for those who believe in Me through their word,

that they may all be one; ^(C1)just as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, ^(C2)so that the world may ^(F1)believe that ^(C3)You sent Me.

"The ^(C1)glory which You have given Me I also have given to them, so that they may be one, just as We are one;

^(C1)I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected ^(F1)in unity, so that the world may ^(F2)know that ^(C2)You sent Me, and You ^(C3)loved them, just as You loved Me.

"Father, I desire that ^(C1)they also, whom You have given Me, ^(C2)be with Me where I am, so that they may see My ^(C3)glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before ^(C4)the foundation of the world.

"^(C1)Righteous Father, ^(F1)although ^(C2)the world has not known You, yet I have known You; and these have known that ^(C3)You sent Me;

and ^(C1)I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that ^(C2)the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them."

When Jesus had spoken these words, ^(C1)He went away with His disciples across ^(C2)the ^(F1)ravine of the Kidron, where there was ^(C3)a garden which He entered ^(F2)with His disciples.

Now Judas, who was ^(F1)betraying Him, also knew the place, because Jesus had ^(C1)often met there with His disciples.

^(C1)So Judas, having obtained ^(C2)the Roman ^(F1)cohort and ^(C3)officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, ^(*)came there with lanterns, ^(C4)torches, and weapons.

Jesus therefore, ^(C1)knowing all the things that were coming upon Him, came out into the open and ^(*)said to them, "^(C2)Whom are you seeking?"

They answered Him, "Jesus the Nazarene." He ^(*)said to them, "I am He." And Judas also, who was betraying Him, was standing with them.

Now then, when He said to them, "I am He," they drew back and fell to the ground.

He then asked them again, "^(C1)Whom are you seeking?" And they said, "Jesus the Nazarene."

Jesus answered, "I told you that I am He; so if you are seeking Me, let these men go on their way."

This took place so that the word which He spoke would be fulfilled: "^(C1)Of those whom You have given Me I lost not one."

Then Simon Peter, ^(C1)since he had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's slave, and cut off his right ear; and the slave's name was Malchus.

So Jesus said to Peter, "Put the sword into the sheath; ^(C1)the cup which the Father has given Me, am I not to drink it?"

^(C1)So ^(C2)the Roman ^(F1)cohort, the ^(F2)commander, and the ^(C2)officers of the Jews arrested Jesus and bound Him,

and brought Him to ^(C1)Annas first; for he was the father-in-law of ^(C2)Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.

Now Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jews that ^(C1)it was in their best interest for one man to die in behalf of the people.

^(C1)Simon Peter was following Jesus, and so was another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and he entered with Jesus into ^(C2)the courtyard of the high priest,

^(C1)but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the doorkeeper, and brought Peter in.

^(C1)Then the slave woman who was the doorkeeper ^(*)said to Peter, "^(C2)You are not also one of this Man's disciples, are you?" He ^(*)said, "I am not."

Now the slaves and the ^(C1)officers were standing there, having made ^(C2)a charcoal fire, for it was cold and they were ^(C3)warming themselves; and Peter was also with them, standing and warming himself.

^(C1)The high priest then questioned Jesus about His disciples, and about His teaching.

Jesus answered him, "I ^(C1)have spoken openly to the world; I always ^(C2)taught in ^(F1)synagogues and ^(C3)in the temple area, where all the Jews congregate; and I said nothing in secret.

"Why are you asking Me? Ask those who have heard what I spoke to them. Look: these people know what I said."

But when He said this, one of the ^(C1)officers, who was standing nearby, ^(C2)struck Jesus, saying, "Is that the way You answer the high priest?"

^(C1)Jesus answered him, "If I have spoken wrongly, testify of the wrong; but if rightly, why do you strike Me?"

^(C1)So Annas sent Him bound to ^(C1)Caiaphas the high priest.

^(C1)Now ^(C2)Simon Peter was still standing and warming himself. So they said to him, "^(C3)You are not one of His disciples as well, are you?" He denied it, and said, "I am not."

One of the slaves of the high priest, who was related to the one ^(C1)whose ear Peter cut off, ^(*)said, "Did I not see you in ^(C2)the garden with Him?"

Peter then denied it again, and immediately ^(C1)a rooster crowed.

^(C1)Then they ^(*)brought Jesus from ^(C2)Caiaphas into ^(C3)the ^(F1)Praetorium, and it was early; and they themselves did not enter ^(C3)the ^(F1)Praetorium, so that ^(C4)they would not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.

^(C1)Therefore Pilate came out to them and ^(*)said, "What accusation are you bringing against this Man?"

They answered and said to him, "If this Man were not ^(F1)a criminal, we would not have handed Him over to you."

So Pilate said to them, "Take Him yourselves, and judge Him according to your law." The Jews said to him, "We are not ^(F1)permitted to put anyone to death."

This happened so that ^(C1)the word of Jesus which He said, indicating what kind of death He was going to die, would be fulfilled.

Therefore Pilate ^(C1)entered the Praetorium again, and summoned Jesus and said to Him, "^(C2)You are the King of the Jews?"

Jesus answered, "Are you saying this ^(F1)on your own, or did others tell you about Me?"

Pilate answered, "I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests handed You over to me; what have You done?"

Jesus answered, "^(C1)My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not ^(F1)of this realm."

Therefore Pilate said to Him, "So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "^(C1)You say correctly that I am a king. For this purpose I have been born, and for this I have come into the world: ^(C2)to testify to the truth. ^(C3)Everyone who is of the truth listens to My voice."

Pilate ^(*)said to Him, "What is truth?" And after saying this, he ^(C1)came out again to the Jews and ^(*)said to them, "^(C2)I find no grounds at all for charges in ^(F1)His case.

Jesus then came out, ^(C1)wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate ^(*)said to them, "Behold, the Man!"

So when the chief priests and the ^(C1)officers saw Him, they shouted, saying, "Crucify, crucify!" Pilate ^(*)said to them, "Take Him yourselves and crucify Him; for ^(C2)I find no grounds for charges in ^(F1)His case!"

The Jews answered him, "^(C1)We have a law, and by that law He ought to die, because He ^(C2)made Himself out to be the Son of God!"

Therefore when Pilate heard this statement, he was even more afraid;

and he ^(C1)entered the ^(F1)Praetorium again and ^(*)said to Jesus, "Where are You from?" But ^(C2)Jesus gave him no answer.

So Pilate ^(*)said to Him, "Are you not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have authority to release You, and I have authority to crucify You?"

Jesus answered him, "^(C1)You would have no authority ^(F1)over Me at all, if it had not been given to you from above; for this reason ^(C2)the one who handed Me over to you has the greater sin."

As a result of this, Pilate ^(F1)made efforts to release Him; but the Jews shouted, saying, "^(C1)If you release this Man, you are not a friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself out to be a king ^(F2)opposes Caesar!"

Therefore when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and ^(C1)sat down on the judgment seat at a place called ^(F1)The Pavement—but ^(C2)in ^(F2)Hebrew, Gabbatha.

Now it was ^(C1)the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the ^(F1)(C2)sixth hour. And he ^(*)said to the Jews, "Look, ^(C3)your King!"

So they shouted, "^(C1)Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!" Pilate ^(*)said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king except Caesar."

So he then ^(C1)handed Him over to them to be crucified.

^(C1)They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, ^(F1)(C2)carrying His own cross, to the place called ^(C3)the Place of a Skull, which ^(C4)in ^(F2)Hebrew is called, Golgotha.

There they crucified Him, and with Him ^(C1)two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between.

Now Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written: "^(C1)JESUS THE NAZARENE, ^(C2)THE KING OF THE JEWS."

Therefore many of the Jews read this inscription, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written ^(C1)in ^(F1)Hebrew, Latin, and in Greek.

So the chief priests of the Jews were saying to Pilate, "Do not write, '^(C1)The King of the Jews'; rather, write that He said, 'I am ^(C1)King of the Jews.'"

Pilate answered, "^(C1)What I have written, I have written."

Then ^(C1)the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His outer garments and made ^(C2)four parts: a part to each soldier, and the ^(F1)tunic also; but the tunic was seamless, woven ^(F2)in one piece.

So they said to one another, "^(C1)Let's not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be." ^(C2)This happened so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: "THEY ^(C3)DIVIDED MY GARMENTS AMONG THEMSELVES, AND THEY CAST ^(F1)LOTS FOR MY CLOTHING." Therefore the soldiers did these things.

^(C1)Now beside the cross of Jesus stood ^(C2)His mother, His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and ^(C3)Mary Magdalene.

So when Jesus saw His mother, and ^(C1)the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He ^(*)said to His mother, "^(C2)Woman, behold, your son!"

Then He ^(*)said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her into ^(C1)his own household.

After this, Jesus, ^(C1)knowing that all things had already been accomplished, ^(C2)in order that the Scripture would be fulfilled, ^(*)said, "^(C3)I am thirsty."

A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so ^(C1)they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth.

Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "^(C1)It is finished!" And He bowed His head and ^(C2)gave up His spirit.

Now then, since it was ^(C1)the day of preparation, to prevent ^(C2)the bodies from remaining on the cross on the Sabbath (^(F1)for that Sabbath was a ^(C3)high day), the Jews requested of Pilate that their legs be broken, and the bodies be taken away.

So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man, and of the other who was ^(C1)crucified with Him;

but after they came to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.

Yet one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately ^(C1)blood and water came out.

And he who has seen has ^(C1)testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe.

For these things took place ^(C1)so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: "^(C2)NOT A BONE OF HIM SHALL BE ^(F1)BROKEN."

And again another Scripture says, "^(C1)THEY WILL LOOK AT HIM WHOM THEY PIERCED."

Now ^(C1)after these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but a ^(C2)secret one for ^(C3)fear of the ^(F1)Jews, requested of Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate granted permission. So he came and took away His body.

^(C1)Nicodemus, who had first come to Him by night, also came, ^(C2)bringing a ^(F1)mixture of ^(C3)myrrh and aloes, about a ^(F2)(C4)hundred litras weight.

So they took the body of Jesus and ^(C1)bound it in ^(C2)linen wrappings with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.

Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden was a ^(C1)new tomb ^(C2)in which no one had yet been laid.

Therefore because of the Jewish day of ^(C1)preparation, since the tomb was ^(C2)nearby, they laid Jesus there.

^(C1)Now on the first day of the week ^(C2)Mary Magdalene ^(*)came early to the tomb, while it was still dark, and ^(*)saw ^(C3)the stone already removed from the tomb.

So she ^(*)ran and ^(*)came to Simon Peter and to the other ^(C1)disciple whom Jesus loved, and ^(*)said to them, "^(C2)They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they have put Him."

^(C1)So Peter and the other disciple left, and they were going to the tomb.

The two were running together; and the other disciple ran ahead, faster than Peter, and came to the tomb first;

and he ^(C1)stooped to look in, and ^(*)saw the ^(C2)linen wrappings lying there; however he did not go in.

So Simon Peter also ^(*)came, following him, and he entered the tomb; and he ^(*)looked at the linen wrappings lying there,

and ^(C1)the face-cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the ^(C2)linen wrappings but folded up in a place by itself.

So the other disciple who ^(C1)had first come to the tomb also entered then, and he saw and believed.

For ^(C1)they did not yet understand the Scripture, ^(C2)that He must rise from the dead.

So the disciples went away again ^(C1)to their own homes.

^(C1)But Mary was standing outside the tomb, weeping; so as she wept, she ^(C2)stooped to look into the tomb;

and she ^(*)saw ^(C1)two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been lying.

And they ^(*)said to her, "^(C1)Woman, why are you weeping?" She ^(*)said to them, "Because ^(C2)they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they put Him."

When she had said this, she turned around and ^(*)(C1)saw Jesus standing there, and yet she ^(C2)did not know that it was Jesus.

Jesus ^(*)said to her, "^(C1)Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?" Thinking that He was the gardener, she ^(*)said to Him, "Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you put Him, and I will take Him away."

Jesus ^(*)said to her, "Mary!" She turned and ^(*)said to Him ^(C1)in ^(F1)Hebrew, "^(C2)Rabboni!" (which means, Teacher).

Jesus ^(*)said to her, "Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to ^(C1)My brothers and say to them, 'I am ^(C2)ascending to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.'"

^(C1)Mary Magdalene ^(*)came and ^(C2)announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord," and that He had said these things to her.

Now when it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were ^(F1)shut where the disciples were together due to ^(C1)fear of the ^(F2)Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and ^(*)said to them, "^(C2)Peace be to you."

And when He had said this, ^(C1)He showed them both His hands and His side. The disciples then ^(C2)rejoiced when they saw the Lord.

So Jesus said to them again, "^(C1)Peace be to you; ^(C2)just as the Father has sent Me, I also send you."

And when He had said this, He breathed on them and ^(*)said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.

"^(C1)If you forgive the sins of any, their sins ^(F1)have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained."

But ^(C1)Thomas, one of ^(C2)the twelve, who was called ^(F1)(C1)Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

So the other disciples were saying to him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see in ^(C1)His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, ^(C2)I will not believe."

^(F1)Eight days later His disciples were again inside, and Thomas was with them. Jesus ^(*)came, the doors having been ^(F2)shut, and stood in their midst and said, "^(C1)Peace be to you."

Then He ^(*)said to Thomas, "^(C1)Place your finger here, and see My hands; and take your hand and put it into My side; and do not continue in disbelief, but be a believer."

Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!"

Jesus ^(*)said to him, "Because you have seen Me, have you now believed? ^(C1)Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed."

^(C1)So then, many other ^(F1)(C2)signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book;

but these have been written ^(C1)so that you may believe that Jesus is the ^(F1)Christ, ^(C2)the Son of God; and that by ^(C3)believing you may have life in His name.

After these things Jesus ^(F1)(C1)revealed Himself ^(C2)again to the disciples at the ^(C3)Sea of Tiberias, and He revealed Himself in this way:

Simon Peter, ^(C1)Thomas who was called ^(F1)Didymus, ^(C2)Nathanael of ^(C3)Cana in Galilee, ^(C4)the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together.

Simon Peter ^(*)said to them, "I am going fishing." They ^(*)said to him, "We are also coming with you." They went out and got into the boat; and ^(C1)that night they caught nothing.

But when the day was now breaking, Jesus stood on the beach; yet the disciples did not ^(C1)know that it was Jesus.

So Jesus ^(*)said to them, "Children, ^(C1)you do not have any fish to eat, do you?" They answered Him, "No."

And He said to them, "^(C1)Cast the net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you will find the fish." So they cast it, and then they were not able to haul it in because of the great quantity of fish.

^(C1)Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved ^(*)said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he was stripped for work), and threw himself into the sea.

But the other disciples came in the little boat, for they were not far from the land, but about ^(F1)two hundred cubits away, dragging the net full of fish.

So when they got out on the land, they ^(*)saw a charcoal ^(C1)fire already ^(F1)made and ^(C2)fish placed on it, and bread.

Jesus ^(*)said to them, "Bring some of the ^(C1)fish which you have now caught."

So Simon Peter went up and hauled the net to land, full of large fish, 153; and although there were so many, the net was not torn.

Jesus ^(*)said to them, "Come and have ^(C1)breakfast." None of the disciples ventured to inquire of Him, "Who are You?" knowing that it was the Lord.

Jesus ^(*)came and ^(*)took ^(C1)the bread and ^(*)gave it to them, and the ^(C2)fish likewise.

This was now the ^(C1)third time that Jesus revealed Himself to the disciples, after He was raised from the dead.

Now when they had ^(C1)finished breakfast, Jesus ^(*)said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you ^(F1)(C2)love Me more than these?" He ^(*)said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I ^(F2)love You." He ^(*)said to him, "Tend ^(C3)My lambs."

He ^(*)said to him again, a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you ^(F1)love Me?" He ^(*)said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I ^(F2)love You." He ^(*)said to him, "^(C1)Shepherd My sheep."

He ^(*)said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you ^(F1)love Me?" Peter was ^(F2)hurt because He said to him ^(C1)the third time, "Do you ^(F1)love Me?" And he said to Him, "Lord, ^(C2)You know all things; You know that I ^(F1)love You." Jesus ^(*)said to him, "^(C3)Tend My sheep.

"Truly, truly I tell you, when you were younger, you used to put on your belt and walk wherever you wanted; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and someone else will put your belt on you, and bring you where you do not want to go."

Now He said this, ^(C1)indicating by ^(C2)what kind of death he would glorify God. And when He had said this, He ^(*)said to him, "^(C3)Follow Me!"

Peter turned around and ^(*)saw the ^(C1)disciple whom Jesus loved following them—the one who also had ^(C2)leaned back on His chest at the supper and said, "Lord, who is the one who is betraying You?"

So Peter, upon seeing him, ^(*)said to Jesus, "Lord, and what about this man?"

Jesus ^(*)said to him, "If I want him to remain ^(C1)until I come, what is that to you? You ^(C2)follow Me!"

Therefore this ^(F1)account went out among ^(C1)the brothers, that that disciple would not die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but only, "If I want him to remain ^(C2)until I come, what is that to you?"

This is the disciple who ^(C1)is testifying about these things and wrote these things, and we know that his testimony is true.

But there are also ^(C1)many other things which Jesus did, which, if they were written in detail, I expect that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.
