Now it came about after this that Absalom provided for himself a chariot and horses, and fifty men to run ahead of him.
2 Samuel 15:1
And it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared him chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him.
And Absalom used to rise early and stand beside the road to the gate; and when any man who had a lawsuit was to come before the king for judgment, Absalom would call out to him and say, "From what city are you?" And he would say, "Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel."
2 Samuel 15:2
And Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was so, that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city art thou? And he said, Thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.
Then Absalom would say to him, "See, your claims are good and right, but you have no one to listen to you on the part of the king."
2 Samuel 15:3
And Absalom said unto him, See, thy matters are good and right; but there is no man deputed of the king to hear thee.
Moreover, Absalom would say, "Oh that someone would appoint me judge in the land, then every man who has a lawsuit or claim could come to me, and I would give him justice!"
2 Samuel 15:4
Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man which hath any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice!
And whenever a man approached to prostrate himself before him, he would put out his hand and take hold of him and kiss him.
2 Samuel 15:5
And it was so, that when any man came nigh to him to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and took him, and kissed him.
Absalom dealt this way with all Israel who came to the king for judgment; so Absalom stole the hearts of the people of Israel.
2 Samuel 15:6
And on this manner did Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment: so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.
Now it came about at the end of four years that Absalom said to the king, "Please let me go and pay my vow which I have made to the LORD, in Hebron.
2 Samuel 15:7
And it came to pass after forty years, that Absalom said unto the king, I pray thee, let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed unto the Lord , in Hebron.
"For your servant made a vow while I was living in Geshur in Aram, saying, 'If the LORD will indeed bring me back to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD.'"
2 Samuel 15:8
For thy servant vowed a vow while I abode at Geshur in Syria, saying, If the Lord shall bring me again indeed to Jerusalem, then I will serve the Lord .
The king said to him, "Go in peace." So he got up and went to Hebron.
2 Samuel 15:9
And the king said unto him, Go in peace. So he arose, and went to Hebron.
But Absalom sent spies throughout the tribes of Israel, saying, "As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say, 'Absalom is king in Hebron!'"
2 Samuel 15:10
But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as ye hear the sound of the trumpet, then ye shall say, Absalom reigneth in Hebron.
Then two hundred men went with Absalom from Jerusalem, who were invited and went innocently, for they did not know anything.
2 Samuel 15:11
And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem, that were called; and they went in their simplicity, and they knew not any thing.
And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong, for the people continually increased with Absalom.

And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counsellor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.
