So Saul died . Compare 1 Chronicles 10:13 , 1 Chronicles 10:14 . Here, history from human standpoint; in Chronicles, God's standpoint, and reasons of the history. See notes on 1 Chronicles 10:13 , and App-55 . If Saul was thirty years of age when anointed, he would now be seventy; and Jonathan fifty-three or fifty-four. See note on 1 Samuel 13:1 .

Verse 10

his body . This is additional to 1 Chronicles 10:10 ; and "his head", there, is additional to 1 Samuel 31:10 . The two books and accounts are independent, supplementary, and complementary by Figure of speech Hysteresis ( App-6 ). See App-55 .

Beth-shan. It had remained Canaanite, and therefore friendly to Philistines (Judges 1:27 ).
