Sermon Illustrations come in all different shapes and sizes. For some a sermon illustration is a short story used to illuminate a Biblical truth. Others use a quote, joke or poem to make their point. However, without illustrations, even the best sermon writer can have his product deemed dull, dry or uninspiring. Author Louis Banks, wrote way back in 1902 that "dullness is no longer regarded as an indication of either a profound mind or a pious heart. The day has passed when people will scratch their heads and lift their hands in admiration over a sermon which is 'so deep' that they cannot understand it."
