I am John, your brother and partner in suffering, ruling, and enduring because of Jesus. I was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony about Jesus.[xr]

You have endured and suffered because of my name, yet you have not grown weary.Galatians 6:9; Hebrews 12:3,5;">[xr]

But you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me in white clothes because they are worthy.Acts 1:15; Jude 1:23; Revelation 4:4; 6:11;">[xr]

Because you have kept my command to endure,my word of endurance">[fn] I will keep you from the hour of testing that is coming to the whole world to test those living on the earth.Isaiah 24:17; Luke 2:1; 2 Peter 2:9;">[xr]

"You are worthy, our Lord and God,Genesis 1:1; Acts 17:24; Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:16; Revelation 5:12; 10:6;">[xr] to receive glory, honor, and power, because you created all things, and they came into existence and were created because of your will."

I began to cry bitterly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or look inside it.

They sang a new song:Psalm 40:3; Daniel 4:1; 6:25; Acts 20:28; Romans 3:24; 1 Corinthians 6:20; 7:23; Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:14; Hebrews 9:12; 1 Peter 1:18-19; 2 Peter 2:1; 1 John 1:7; Revelation 4:6,11; 7:9; 11:9;">[xr] "You are worthy to take the scroll and open its seals, because you were slaughtered. With your blood you purchased peoplepeople">[fn] for God from every tribe, language, people, and nation.

When the lambhe">[fn] opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slaughtered because of the word of God and the testimony they had given.2 Timothy 1:8; Revelation 1:9; 8:3; 9:13; 12:17; 14:18; 19:10; 20:4;">[xr]

The name of the star is Wormwood. One-third of the water turned into wormwood, and many people died from the water because it had turned bitter.Exodus 15:23; Ruth 1:20; Jeremiah 9:15; 23:15;">[xr]

Then I looked, and I heard an eagle flying overhead say in a loud voice, "How terrible, how terrible, how terrible for those living on the earth, because of the blasts of the remaining trumpets that the three angels are about to blow!"Revelation 9:12; 11:14; 14:6; 19:17;">[xr]

But don't measure the courtyard outside the temple. Leave that out, because it is given to the nations, and they will trample the Holy City[fn] for forty-two months.Psalm 79:1; Ezekiel 40:17,20; Daniel 8:10; Luke 21:24; Revelation 13:5;">[xr]

Those living on earth will gloat over them, celebrate, and send gifts to each other, because these two prophets had tormented those living on earth.Esther 9:19,22; Revelation 12:12; 13:8; 16:10;">[xr]

They said,Revelation 1:4,8; 4:8; 16:5; 19:6;">[xr] "We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, who is and who was, because you have taken your great powerand have begun to rule.

So be glad, heavens, and those who live in them!Psalm 96:11; Isaiah 49:13; Revelation 8:13; 10:6; 11:10; 18:20;">[xr] How terrible it is for the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you with great wrath, knowing that his time is short!"

They worshiped the dragon because it had given authority to the beast. They also worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast, and who can fight a war with it?"Revelation 18:18;">[xr]

This calls for wisdom: Let the person who has understanding figure out the number of the beast, because it is the number of a person.it is a human number">[fn] Its number is 666.616">[fn]Revelation 15:2; 17:9; 21:17;">[xr]

He said in a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship the one who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water."Nehemiah 9:6; Psalm 33:6; 124:8; 146:5-6; Acts 14:15; 17:24; Revelation 11:18; 15:4;">[xr]

Another angel came out of the temple, crying out in a loud voice to the one who sat on the cloud, "Swing your sickle, and gather the harvest, for the hour has come to gather it, because the harvest on the earth is fully ripe."Jeremiah 51:33; Joel 3:13; Matthew 13:39; Revelation 6:17; 13:12;">[xr]

From the altar came another angel who had authority over fire. He called out in a loud voice to the angelto the one">[fn] who had the sharp sickle, "Swing your sharp sickle, and gather the bunches of grapes from the vine of the earth, because those grapes are ripe."Joel 3:13; Revelation 16:8;">[xr]

Lord, who won't fear and praise your name?Exodus 15:14-16; Isaiah 66:22; Jeremiah 10:7;">[xr] For you alone are holy, and all the nations will come and worship you because your judgments have been revealed."
