Si recibimos el testimonio de hombres - Como estamos acostumbrados a hacer, y como debemos hacer en los tribunales de justicia, y en las transacciones cotidianas ordinarias de la vida. Actuamos constantemente con la creencia de que lo que otros dicen es verdad; que lo que dicen los miembros de nuestras familias y nuestros vecinos es verdad; que lo que informan los viajeros es cierto; que lo que leemos en los libros y lo que se jura en los tribunales de justicia es cierto. No podríamos llevarnos bien un solo día si no actuamos de acuerdo con esta creencia; ni estamos acostumbrados a ponerlo en cuestión, a menos que tengamos razones para sospechar que es falso. La mente está hecha de tal manera que debe acreditar el testimonio dado por otros; y si esto cesase incluso por un solo día, los asuntos del mundo se detendrían.

El testimonio de Dios es mayor - Es más digno de creer; como Dios es más verdadero, sabio y bueno que las personas. Las personas pueden ser engañadas, y pueden ser testigos de lo que no es verdad: Dios nunca puede serlo; los hombres pueden, con fines siniestros y básicos, intentar engañar: Dios nunca puede; la gente puede actuar por observación parcial, por rumores indignos de crédito: Dios nunca puede hacerlo; la gente puede desear despertar la admiración de lo maravilloso: Dios nunca puede; la gente ha engañado, Dios nunca lo ha hecho; y aunque, por estas causas, hay muchos casos en los que no estamos seguros de que el testimonio de las personas sea verdadero, pero siempre estamos seguros de que lo que es llevado por Dios no es falso. La única pregunta sobre la cual la mente duda es si realmente tenemos su testimonio o si sabemos de qué es testigo; cuando eso se determina, la mente humana está hecha de tal manera que no puede creer que Dios engañe deliberadamente a un mundo. Porque este es el testimonio de Dios ... - El testimonio mencionado anteriormente, que es transmitido por el Espíritu, el agua y la sangre. ¿Quién que vio su bautismo y escuchó la voz del cielo, Mateo 3:16, podría dudar de que él era el Hijo de Dios? ¿Quién que vio su muerte en la cruz, y que presenció las increíbles escenas que ocurrieron allí, no pudo unirse al centurión romano al decir que este era el Hijo de Dios? ¿Quién que ha sentido las influencias del Espíritu Eterno en su corazón, ha dudado alguna vez de que Jesús era el Hijo de Dios? Versículo 9. Si recibimos el testimonio de los hombres.  Lo cual todos están obligados a hacer, y que se considera un testimonio suficiente de la verdad en innumerables casos; el testimonio de Dios es mayor: él no puede ser engañado ni engañar, pero el hombre puede engañar y ser engañado.
