Devotional: 2nd of Tammuz

They do not come to trust because the god of the 'olam hazeh [this world] has blinded their minds (2 Corinthians 4:4).

It is easy to become discouraged at the unbelief of our people, our friends, and especially our family members. We feel that if only we could say the right words or have the right book or tract at the right time, then surely they would believe. But no one was ever argued into God's Kingdom.

Once I met with a Jewish attorney who prided himself in his great intellect and ability to argue a point. He told me confidently that he could never believe in Yeshua because, while Yeshua was dying, he cried out in accusation against God, "My God! My God! Why have you deserted me?" I was eager to show him the passage from Psalm 22 which Yeshua quoted when he hung on the tzlav (cross). I explained how Psalm 22 was a Messianic prediction. His eyes grew wide as he realized the connection, but immediately his face clouded over and he said to me, "The disciples must have put these words in Yeshua's mouth to make it seem like he was fulfilling this passage." I was thunderstruck. First he said that the words of Yeshua proved he wasn't the Messiah. Then, he changed his tune to say that Yeshua never said those words to begin with!

The capacity for human unbelief knows no bounds. Instead of being surprised and discouraged by this unbelief, we should pray without ceasing, for only through the power of the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) can unbelief be turned to faith in the Lord.

...make or renew a commitment to pray for my unbelieving family and friends, that by the power of God's Ruach (Spirit) they would come to know that Yeshua is Messiah.
