And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-sheba even to Dan; and bring to me, and I will know their number.

And Joab said, May Jehovah add to His people as if they were a hundred times; my lord, O king, are they not all of them servants to my lord? Why does my lord desire this? Why will he be a cause of guilt to Israel?

But the word of the king was heavy against Joab; and Joab went out and went up and down all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.
