(bee' rite) Word of unknown meaning (2 Samuel 20:14 ). Some Bible students think original text read Bichrites, referring to clan to which Sheba, son of Bichri belonged (2 Samuel 20:13 ). See TEV, NRSV. Some would identify the Berites as residents of a town called Biria in northern Palestine.
