(nahd) Place name meaning, “wandering.” After murdering his brother Abel, Cain was condemned to be “a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth” (Genesis 4:12 ,Genesis 4:12,4:14; NRSV). Nod is located “away from the presence of the Lord and “east of Eden” (Genesis 4:16 ). The text is not so much interested in fixing the physical location of Nod as in emphasizing the “lostness” of the wanderer Cain.
