Founded to train secular clergy, during the religious persecution of Elizabeth and James I. They were established at Salamanca, Seville, Madrid, Alcala, Santiago de Compostela, Lisbon, Louvain, Antwerp, Tournai, Douai, Lille, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Nantes, Poitiers, and Paris.
