Of all the things I do, acting is the thing that grabs most, but there's another level on which it strikes me as being a little silly. In the end you're dressing up and deciding to be somebody.

Acting has been very useful to me.

The only thing I like about being an actress is acting.

We don't have sources who are dissidents on other sources. Should they come forward, that would be a tricky situation for us. But we're presumably acting in such a way that people feel morally compelled to continue our mission, not to screw it up.

My dream as a youngster was to be like Olivier. To be a great stage actor. To be a great Shakespearean actor. To me that is the Olympics of acting.

Acting is a total physical, emotional sensation.

Some people have therapy, some people are alcoholics or they're in AA. Some people jump out of planes on weekends or find ways to release this kind of thing. And for me, it's acting. I find acting very therapeutic for whatever it is.

I think some people in their 20s really get it, that acting is about creativity and the work. They get their maturity from their work.

I think if you're half-hearted you shouldn't go into acting.

I feel lucky. I think acting can help to keep you young. It does make you feel there's meaning in your life.

I went into show business because I love to work with people, and what I enjoy most about acting is rehearsing and getting to know people and their talents, forming relationships. Working in this business, barriers drop and you get into people real quickly.

I always think that a director who knows about the technical side, but cares about the acting performances and casting as well, is ahead of the game.

I feel I'm two people: I have my interest in acting and I have a lot of other political interests I'd like to pursue.

Obviously there are times with acting when exactly what is required is just going through the motions, and when doing nothing is the best thing. But at other times, you have to make that leap beyond the immediate environment of people putting up lights on the set.
