Then Jacob raised his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and four hundred men with him. So he divided the children among Leah and Rachel, and the two slave women.

He put the slave women and their children in front, and Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph last.

He raised his eyes and saw the women and the children, and said, "Who are these with you?" So he said, "The children whom God has graciously given your servant."

Then the slave women came forward with their children, and they bowed down.

And Leah likewise came forward with her children, and they bowed down; and afterward Joseph came forward with Rachel, and they bowed down.

But he said to him, "My lord knows that the children are frail and that the flocks and herds that are nursing are a matter of concern to me. And if they are driven hard just one day, all the flocks will die.

"Please let my lord pass on ahead of his servant, and I will proceed at my leisure, at the pace of the cattle that are ahead of me and at the pace of the children, until I come to my lord at Seir."

And these are the children of Anah: Dishon, and Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah.

"For you shall live in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near me, you and your children and your grandchildren, and your flocks and your herds and all that you have.

"But your children that you have fathered after them shall be yours; they shall be called by the names of their brothers in their inheritance.

And Israel said to Joseph, "I never expected to see your face, and behold, God has let me see your children as well!"

When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the boy was crying. And she had pity on him and said, "This is one of the Hebrews' children."

"And you shall keep this event as an ordinance for you and your children forever.

"And when your children say to you, 'What does this rite mean to you?'

Now the sons of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, aside from children.

But the people were thirsty for water there; and they grumbled against Moses and said, "Why is it that you have brought us up from Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?"

"You shall not worship them nor serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, inflicting the punishment of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,

"If his master gives him a wife, and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall belong to her master, and he shall leave alone.

"But if the slave plainly says, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not leave as a free man,'

and My anger will be kindled, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless.
