Now when it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a desolate place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves."

but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them.

"Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat."

He answered them, "And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?

For God commanded, ‘Honor your father and your mother,' and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.'

he need not honor his father.' So for the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God.

For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.

But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, "Send her away, for she is crying out after us."

Then Jesus answered her, "O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire." And her daughter was healed instantly.

He answered them, "When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.'

And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.' You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.

An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah." So he left them and departed.

Do you not yet perceive? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you gathered?

Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets you gathered?

And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.

But he turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man."

For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?

For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done.

And Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah."
