Joseph provided and supplied his father and his brothers and all his father's household with food, according to [the needs of] their children.

Israel said to Joseph, "I never expected to see your face, but see, God has shown me your children as well."

Joseph saw the third generation of Ephraim's children; also the children of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were born and raised on Joseph's knees.

When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby was crying. And she took pity on him and said, "This is one of the Hebrews' children."

Now it happened after a long time [about forty years] that the king of Egypt died. And the children of Israel (Jacob) groaned and sighed because of the bondage, and they cried out. And their cry for help because of their bondage ascended to God.

"Now, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me; and I have also seen how the Egyptians oppress them.

"Therefore, come now, and I will send you to Pharaoh, and then bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt."

But Moses said to God, "Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?"

"Therefore, say to the children of Israel, 'I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will free you from their bondage. I will redeem and rescue you with an outstretched (vigorous, powerful) arm and with great acts of judgment [against Egypt].

"Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the children of Israel go out of his land."

These are [the same] Aaron and Moses to whom the LORD said, "Bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies."

"You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall tell Pharaoh to let the children of Israel go out of his land.

"But Pharaoh will not listen to you, and I shall lay My hand on Egypt and bring out My hosts [like a defensive army, tribe by tribe], My people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment (the plagues).

"The Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the children of Israel from among them."

Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel lived, was there no hail.

Pharaoh said to them, "The LORD be with you [to help you], if I ever let you go with your children [because you will never return]! Look [be forewarned], you have an evil plan in mind.

Then Pharaoh called to Moses, and said, "Go, serve the LORD; only your flocks and your herds must be left behind. Even your children may go with you."

"You shall observe this event [concerning Passover] as an ordinance for you and for your children forever.

"When your children say to you, 'What does this service mean to you?'

Now the Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides [the women and] the children.
