And they said to one another, "Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly." And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar.

Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth."

And the Lord said, "Look, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do; nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.

Now there was a famine in the land. So Abram went down to Egypt to reside there as an alien, for the famine was severe in the land.

And for her sake he dealt well with Abram; and he had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male and female slaves, female donkeys, and camels.

Then Abram said to Lot, "Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herders and my herders; for we are kindred.

So Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward; thus they separated from each other.

for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever.

Rise up, walk through the length and the breadth of the land, for I will give it to you."

Then the king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the persons, but take the goods for yourself."

But Abram said, "O Lord God , what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?"

Then the Lord said to Abram, "Know this for certain, that your offspring shall be aliens in a land that is not theirs, and shall be slaves there, and they shall be oppressed for four hundred years;

As for yourself, you shall go to your ancestors in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age.

And they shall come back here in the fourth generation; for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete."

The angel of the Lord also said to her, "I will so greatly multiply your offspring that they cannot be counted for multitude."

And the angel of the Lord said to her, "Now you have conceived and shall bear a son; you shall call him Ishmael, for the Lord has given heed to your affliction.

So she named the Lord who spoke to her, "You are El-roi"; for she said, "Have I really seen God and remained alive after seeing him?"

"As for me, this is my covenant with you: You shall be the ancestor of a multitude of nations.
