Deliver me, I pray you, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau, for I fear him. Or else, he will come and smite me, from mother to sons.

And he lodged there that night, and took of that which he had with him a present for Esau his brother:

and you shall say, Moreover, look, your slave Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face; perhaps he will accept me.

And he said, Let me go, for the day breaks. And he said, I will not let you go, except you bless me.

And he said, Your name will not be Jacob anymore, but Israel: for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed.

And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray you, your name. And he said, Why is it that you ask for my name? And he blessed him there.

And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for, [he said], I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built himself a house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.

And he bought the parcel of ground, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the sons of Hamor, Shechem's father, for a hundred pieces of money.

And Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longs for your daughter: I pray you, give her to him as wife.

and said to them, We can't do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that would be a reproach to us.

These men are peaceful with us; so let them dwell in the land, and trade therein; for, look, the land is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters.

And it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her, Don't be afraid; for now you shall have another son.

And it came to pass, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she named him Ben-oni: but his father called him Benjamin.

For their substance was too great for them to dwell together; and the land of their sojournings could not bear them because of their cattle.

for, look, we were binding sheaves in the field, and see, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and see, your sheaves came round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.

And his brothers said to him, Shall you indeed reign over us? Or shall you indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.

And the man said, They have departed from here; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brothers, and found them in Dothan.

Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and don't let our hand be on him; for he is our brother, our flesh. And his brothers listened to him.

And there passed by Midianites, merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph into Egypt.
