Sing joyfully^(a) to the Lord , you righteous; it is fitting^(b) for the upright^(c) to praise him.

Praise the Lord with the harp;^(d) make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.^(e)

Sing to him a new song;^(f) play skillfully, and shout for joy.^(g)

For the word of the Lord is right^(h) and true;⁽ⁱ⁾ he is faithful^(j) in all he does.

The Lord loves righteousness and justice;^(k) the earth is full of his unfailing love.^(l)

By the word^(m) of the Lord the heavens were made,⁽ⁿ⁾ their starry host^(o) by the breath of his mouth.

He gathers the waters^(p) of the sea into jars^[a];^(q) he puts the deep into storehouses.

Let all the earth fear the Lord ;^(r) let all the people of the world^(s) revere him.^(t)

For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded,^(u) and it stood firm.

The Lord foils^(v) the plans^(w) of the nations;^(x) he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.

But the plans of the Lord stand firm^(y) forever, the purposes^(z) of his heart through all generations.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord ,^(aa) the people he chose^(ab) for his inheritance.^(ac)

From heaven the Lord looks down^(ad) and sees all mankind;^(ae)

from his dwelling place^(af) he watches all who live on earth—

he who forms^(ag) the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.^(ah)

No king is saved by the size of his army;^(ai) no warrior escapes by his great strength.

A horse^(aj) is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.

But the eyes^(ak) of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,^(al)

to deliver them from death^(am) and keep them alive in famine.^(an)

We wait^(ao) in hope for the Lord ; he is our help and our shield.

In him our hearts rejoice,^(ap) for we trust in his holy name.^(aq)

May your unfailing love^(ar) be with us, Lord , even as we put our hope in you.

Vindicate me, my God, and plead my cause^(a) against an unfaithful nation. Rescue me^(b) from those who are deceitful and wicked.^(c)

You are God my stronghold. Why have you rejected^(d) me? Why must I go about mourning,^(e) oppressed by the enemy?^(f)

Send me your light^(g) and your faithful care,^(h) let them lead me;⁽ⁱ⁾ let them bring me to your holy mountain,^(j) to the place where you dwell.^(k)

Then I will go^(l) to the altar^(m) of God, to God, my joy⁽ⁿ⁾ and my delight.^(o) I will praise you with the lyre,^(p) O God, my God.

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.^(q)

Shout for joy to God, all the earth!^(a)

Sing the glory of his name;^(b) make his praise glorious.^(c)

Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds!^(d) So great is your power that your enemies cringe^(e) before you.

All the earth bows down^(f) to you; they sing praise^(g) to you, they sing the praises of your name."^[a]

Come and see what God has done, his awesome deeds^(h) for mankind!

He turned the sea into dry land,⁽ⁱ⁾ they passed through^(j) the waters on foot— come, let us rejoice^(k) in him.

He rules forever^(l) by his power, his eyes watch^(m) the nations— let not the rebellious⁽ⁿ⁾ rise up against him.

Praise^(o) our God, all peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard;

he has preserved our lives^(p) and kept our feet from slipping.^(q)

For you, God, tested^(r) us; you refined us like silver.^(s)

You brought us into prison^(t) and laid burdens^(u) on our backs.

You let people ride over our heads;^(v) we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance.^(w)

I will come to your temple with burnt offerings^(x) and fulfill my vows^(y) to you—

vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble.

I will sacrifice fat animals to you and an offering of rams; I will offer bulls and goats.^(z)

Come and hear,^(aa) all you who fear God; let me tell^(ab) you what he has done for me.

I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue.

If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened;^(ac)

but God has surely listened and has heard^(ad) my prayer.

Praise be to God, who has not rejected^(ae) my prayer or withheld his love from me!
