God, we have heard with our ears, Our fathers have told us The work that You did in their days, In the days of old.
Psalms 44:1
We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.
You with Your own hand drove out the nations; Then You planted them; You afflicted the peoples, Then You let them go free.
Psalms 44:2
How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.
For by their own sword they did not possess the land, And their own arm did not save them, But Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your presence, For You favored them.
Psalms 44:3
For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.
You are my King, God; Command victories for Jacob.
Psalms 44:4
Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.
Through You we will push back our adversaries; Through Your name we will trample down those who rise up against us.
Psalms 44:5
Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.
For I will not trust in my bow, Nor will my sword save me.
Psalms 44:6
For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.
But You have saved us from our adversaries, And You have put to shame those who hate us.
Psalms 44:7
But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.
In God we have boasted all day long, And we will give thanks to Your name forever. Selah
Psalms 44:8
In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.
Yet You have rejected us and brought us to dishonor, And do not go out with our armies.
Psalms 44:9
But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.
You cause us to turn back from the enemy; And those who hate us have taken spoils for themselves.
Psalms 44:10
Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.
You turn us over to be eaten like sheep, And have scattered us among the nations.
Psalms 44:11
Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.
You sell Your people cheaply, And have not profited by their sale.
Psalms 44:12
Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase thy wealth by their price.
You make us an object of reproach to our neighbors, Of scoffing and ridicule to those around us.
Psalms 44:13
Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.
You make us a proverb among the nations, A laughingstock among the peoples.
Psalms 44:14
Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.
All day long my dishonor is before me And I am covered with my humiliation,
Psalms 44:15
My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,
Because of the voice of one who taunts and reviles, Because of the presence of the enemy and the avenger.
Psalms 44:16
For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger.
All this has come upon us, but we have not forgotten You, And we have not dealt falsely with Your covenant.
Psalms 44:17
All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.
Our heart has not turned back, And our steps have not deviated from Your way,
Psalms 44:18
Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;
Yet You have crushed us in a place of jackals And covered us with deep darkness.
Psalms 44:19
Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.
If we had forgotten the name of our God Or extended our hands to a strange god,
Psalms 44:20
If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;
Would God not find this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.
Psalms 44:21
Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
But for Your sake we are killed all day long; We are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.
Psalms 44:22
Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.
Wake Yourself up, why do You sleep, Lord? Awake, do not reject us forever.
Psalms 44:23
Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever.
Why do You hide Your face And forget our affliction and oppression?
Psalms 44:24
Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
For our souls have sunk down into the dust; Our bodies cling to the earth.
Psalms 44:25
For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth unto the earth.
Rise up, be our help, And redeem us because of Your mercy.
Psalms 44:26
Arise for our help, and redeem us for thy mercies' sake.
