כְּרַז Ch. to cry out, to proclaim, as a herald, Aphel id. Daniel 5:29 [Syr. ܟܪܳܙ]. (This root is widely spread in the Indo-Germanic languages, Sansc. krus, to cry out; Zend. khresiô, one crying out, a herald; Pers. ثريستن, غر شيدن to cry out; Greek κηρύσσω, also κρίζω, κράζω; Germ. kreifchen, kreißen; Engl. to cry; compare קָרָא. Amongst the Arab Christians كرز is to preach, for κηρύσσειν.)
