Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

עָנָן constr. state עֲנַן m.

(1)  a cloud (as covering and veiling over the heaven), compare عَمَاءُ a cloud, from the root عمى to cover, to veil over, and غِفَارَةُ a cloud, from the root غفر to cover. (Arab. عنا نة, pl. عنان.) A very large army is compared to a cloud, Ezekiel 30:18, 38:9 a morning cloud is used as an image of something transient, Hosea 6:4 (compare Job 7:9).
