Vocabulary of the Greek NT

With the use of this verbal adj. in Luke 24:42 (cf. Hobart, p. 182 f.) we may compare P Giss I. 93.6 ὀπτοῦ δέλφακος, ";roast pork,"; in what appears to be a list of goods for a feast. The word= ";baked"; is common with πλίνθος, e.g. P Ryl II. 164.7 (A.D. 171) κρηπε [ ]ς ἐξ ὀπτοῦ πλίν [θου, ";a quay of baked brick,"; P Oxy XIV. 1674.8 (iii/A.D.) θὲς τὴν ὀπτὸν πλίνθον π [α ]ρὰ τὴν πλάτην, ";put the baked bricks alongside the wall (?)"; (Edd.), P Flor I. 50.58, .63 (A.D. 268), and PSI VI. 712.5 (A.D. 295).

For the subst. ὄπτησις cf. BGU IV. 1143.17 (B.C. 18) κ ̣ε ̣[καυμ ]ένα τῇ καθηκούσῃ ὀπτήσι. Wilcken (Ostr. i. p. 693) cites ὀπτανεύς, ";roaster,"; ";keeper of a cook-shop,"; from an unedited Berlin papyrus of iii/B.C. The verb is seen in P Lond 131 recto.115 (A.D. 78–9) (= I. p. 173) περιστερ (ὰς) ὀπτωμέν (ας) : if the restoration is right, it is used metaphorically in P Giss I. 24.4 (time of Trajan) οὐ μή σε ο ̣̔̓π ̣τήσωσισι (l. ο ̣̔̓π ̣τήσωσι).
