For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but threw them into hellTartarus; a reference to the realm of the dead">[fn] and committed them to chainspits">[fn] of deepest darkness to be kept for judgment;Job 1:4:18; Luke 8:31; John 8:44; 1 John 3:8; Jude 1:6; Revelation 20:2-3;">[xr]

and if he did not spare the ancient world but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others when he brought the flood on the world of ungodly people;Genesis 7:1,7, 23; Hebrews 11:7; 1 Peter 3:19-20; 2 Peter 3:6;">[xr]

But he was rebuked for his offense. A donkey that normally cannot talk spoke with a human voice and restrained the prophet's insanity.

But they deliberately ignore the fact that long ago the heavens existed and the earth was formed by God's word out of water and with water,Genesis 1:6,9; Psalm 24:2; 33:6; 136:6; Colossians 1:17; Hebrews 11:3;">[xr]

The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some people understand slowness, but is being patient with you. He does not want anyone to perish, but wantswants">[fn] everyone to come to repentance.Isaiah 30:18; Ezekiel 18:23,32; 33:11; Habakkuk 2:3; Romans 2:4; 1 Timothy 2:4; Hebrews 10:37; 1 Peter 3:20; 2 Peter 3:15;">[xr]

But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. On that dayOn it">[fn] the heavens will disappear with a roaring sound, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done on it will be exposed.Psalm 102:26; Isaiah 51:6; Matthew 24:35,43; Mark 13:31; Luke 12:39; Romans 8:20; 1 Thessalonians 5:2; Hebrews 1:11; Revelation 3:3; 16:15; 20:11; 21:1;">[xr]

But in keeping with his promise, we are looking forward to new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.Isaiah 65:17; 66:22; Revelation 21:1,27;">[xr]

If we claim that we have fellowship with him but keep living in the darkness, we are lying and the truth is not in us.2 Corinthians 6:14; 1 John 2:4;">[xr]

But if we keep living in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.1 Corinthians 6:11; Ephesians 1:7; Hebrews 9:14; 1 Peter 1:19; 1 John 2:2; Revelation 1:5;">[xr]

It is he who is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world's.John 1:29; 4:42; 11:51-52; Romans 3:25; 2 Corinthians 5:18; 1 John 1:7;">[xr]

The person who says, "I have come to know him," but does not continually keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.1 John 1:6,8; 4:20;">[xr]

But whoever continually keeps his word is the kind of person in whom God's love has truly been perfected. This is how we can be sure that we are in union with him:John 14:21,23; 1 John 4:12-13;">[xr]

Dear friends, I am not writing to you a new commandment, but an old commandment that you have had from the beginning. This old commandment is the word you have heard.1 John 3:11; 2 John 1:1:5;">[xr]

The person who says that he is in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness.1 Corinthians 13:2; 2 Peter 1:9; 1 John 3:14-15;">[xr]

But the person who hates his brother is in the darkness and lives in the darkness. He does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.John 12:35;">[xr]
