And Jacob came from the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, You must come in to me; for I have surely hired you with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.

Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you, and let me go: for you know my service with which I have served you.

And Laban said to him, If now I have found favor in your eyes, [tarry]: [for] I have used magic and [found that] Yahweh has blessed me for your sake.

For you had little before I came, and it has increased to a multitude; and Yahweh has blessed you wherever I turned: and now when shall I provide for my own house also?

And he said, What shall I give you? And Jacob said, You shall not give me anything: if you will do this thing for me, I will again feed your flock and keep it.

So shall my righteousness answer for me hereafter, when you shall come concerning my wages that are before you: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and black among the sheep, that [if found] with me, shall be counted stolen.

And Jacob took for himself rods of fresh poplar, and of the almond and of the plane-tree. And peeled white streaks in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods.

And he said, Lift up now your eyes, and see, all the he-goats which leap on the flock are ringstreaked, speckled, and grizzled: for I have seen all that Laban does to you.

And Rachel and Leah answered and said to him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house?

Aren't we accounted by him as foreigners? for he has sold us, and has also quite devoured our money.

For all the riches which God has taken away from our father, that is ours and our son's: now then, whatever God has said to you, do.

And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid: for I said if I don't, you will take your daughters from me by force.

With whoever you find your gods, he shall not live: before our brothers discern for yourself what is yours with me, and take it with you. For Jacob didn't know that Rachel had stolen them.

And she said to her father, Don't let my lord be angry that I can't rise up before you; for the manner of women is on me. And he searched, but didn't find the talismans.

These twenty years I have been in your house; I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your flock: and you have changed my wages ten times.

And now come, let us make a covenant, I and you; and let it be for a witness between me and you.

And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.

and Mizpah, for he said, Yahweh watch between me and you, when we are absent one from another.

This heap be witness, and the pillar be witness, that I will not pass over this heap to you, and that you shall not pass over this heap and this pillar to me, for harm.

I am not worthy of the least of all the loving-kindnesses, and of all the truth, which you have shown to your slave; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I have become two companies.
